Societe Nouvelle de la Banque de Syrie et du Liban S.A.L.

History of SNBSL goes back to the Ottoman era, when it was operating under the style : the Ottoman Bank”. Upon the fall of the Ottoman Empire in 1919, it was reconstituted and converted into a private company with French capital assets.

In 1924 under the French mandate on Syria and Lebanon, the bank, renamed “Banque de Syrie et du Grand Liban”, was granted the exclusive right to issue the Lebanese and Syrian currency banknotes.

Later on, the bank, re-branded “Banque de Syrie et du Liban” continued to issue the Lebanese currency banknotes only and became the sole clearing house in the country until 1963 when the “ Banque du Liban “ was founded to take over the issuing of the national currency, the clearing house and mainly the control of the local financial sector.

Once more the Bank name was amended to Société Nouvelle de la Banque de Syrie et du Liban s.a.l. and became and still until now a full fledged commercial bank owned by Lebanese and French shareholders.

SNBSL adapted itself to the evolving needs of its customers by offering them a quality and personalized high standard service, while at the same time, continues to follow a transparent and conservative policy, translated by a high liquidity ratio, making SNBSL one of the most liquid and solid financial institutions in the country.

This policy has allowed the Bank to gain the fidelity and trust of his clientele and made its reputation on the market.
